Referral Process - How to Get Access to Treatment at Riverdale Grange

Riverdale Grange receives referrals nation-wide from professionals, specialist hospitals, carers and sufferers themselves.

It is important that the source of funding is agreed prior to admission. As soon as the source of funding is agreed, we can arrange an initial assessment with our Consultant Psychiatrist and admission can take place immediately, provided that beds are available.

There are various ways of funding the treatment:

1. Funding through NHS

In this case the first step would be to see your GP and discuss the option of being admitted to a specialist clinic such as Riverdale Grange. Your GP can refer you to Riverdale Grange eating disorder clinic and can apply on your behalf for funding of the treatment. As a NHS patient you can apply for funding at your local health authority. NHS patients who cannot obtain necessary medical care without undue delay from providers whom their health authorities contract, or where a patient requires specialist services not provided for by a NHS body (lack of specialist treatment centres, waiting lists, or if the treatment offered is not suitable for the patient) can apply with supporting medical evidence of any appropriate clinician (e.g. GP, Psychiatrist) to their health authority for authorisation of the costs involved.
We can admit you as soon as the health authority authorises the funding of the treatment.

2. Private Funding

The cost for self-funding is around £8,000 per month (details of costing available on request), depending on the individual treatment plan. Private Patients do not necessarily need a referral from the GP, self-referral is also possible.

3. Private Health Insurance

Treatment costs may be recovered under major Private Health Schemes.
