How do I get treatment for eating disorders at Riverdale Grange?

Referrals can be made by anybody who is involved in your care, e.g. GP, Psychiatrist, Care Worker etc.

Self referral is also possible. In an initial assessment with our Consultant Psychiatrist we will find out what programme at Riverdale Grange is suitable.

How is care at Riverdale Grange funded?

There are various ways in which care is funded, these include

  • Private/Self Funding
  • Health Authority (NHS)
  • Private Health Insurance

For more information please see our referral process.

What are the costs for private funding?

It depends on your individual treatment plan, but the monthly cost is around £8000.00. Please ask for our detailed price list.

How long is the treatment?

The length of the treatment differs from individual to individual, how severe the eating disorder is and on the progress of each individual. Most health authorities fund for an initial period of three months. After a review  further funding can be applied for. A period of 4 months can be seen as a rough guideline.

Am I allowed to leave the clinic?

Depending on your physical health you can be accompanied by a support worker on walks, into town, shopping etc.

As treatment progresses and with the agreement of the Consultant Psychiatrist you are able to leave the clinic for therapeutic home leaves, to spend time with your family.

Am I allowed to receive visitors?

Friends and Family are welcome to visit you at the clinic (except during meal times and therapy sessions). However, we recommend that patients do not have visitors in the first week, as this will give them a chance to settle down.

What is a normal day?

There are obligatory meal times which every patient has to attend which is followed by periods of restful supervision. In between these mealtimes the patients attend sessions with practitioners such as Consultant psychiatrist, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Art therapist and Aromatherapist. There is also an activities programme running which includes art and crafts, peer support, motivational work, and key worker contact. We also maintain links with the local community and there are many opportunities to undertake some voluntary work and educational courses.
