Alcohol Detoxification Programme

Philosophy

To offer detoxification programmes which enable patients to safely withdraw from alcohol in a restful yet medically supervised environment, following a multi-disciplinary approach. We aim to avoid the stresses that everyday life brings and offer a wide range of activities in order to assist with recovery.

What Makes Riverdale Grange Different

  • A discreet, confidential and friendly environment
  • A range of holistic treatments, tailored to the individual patient
  • An emphasis on re-establishing the patient's self respect
  • Family, partner or friends can be involved to whatever extent the patient wishes.

Inpatient Process

Phase 1. - Intensive phase 10 day programme (£3500.00)

The intensive phase starts from the day of admission where a range of professionals will see the patient and commence the detoxification programme.

Phase 2. - Rehabilitation phase 20 days (£300.00 per day)

This is an extension of the 10 day programme but involves more intense therapeutic work as detailed below. This phase is recommended as recent studies undertaken have highlighted that the length of treatment influences relapse rates.

Consultant Psychiatrist

The Psychiatrist will take a full history to ensure that the right medication is prescribed and continually monitor the patients' mental state throughout the treatment. The Psychiatrist visits the hospital three times a week but offers weekly consultations to patients. Our aim is to ensure that the patient remains as comfortable as possible during the detoxification process therefore an intensive medication regime is commenced to assist with the symptoms of withdrawal.

General Practitioner

The GP will perform a full medical and take samples for blood analysis. Dependence upon alcohol can cause alteration to the liver and associated enzymes so it is therefore required to monitor this disturbance through blood tests. The GP remains actively involved throughout treatment and can liaise with your local GP to ensure relevant information is processed during discharge.

Specialist Nursing Team

Riverdale Grange is a registered hospital offering 24 hour qualified nursing cover. Upon admission the patient will be allocated a specialist nurse therapist who will be responsible for the co-ordination of treatment. This will involve constantly liaising with your family and the team at Riverdale. The specialist nurse therapist will offer daily therapeutic sessions which alongside the consultant will address the following issues;

  • Cycle of addition
  • Process of change
  • Motivational work
  • Consideration of issues leading on to the dependence such as abuse, divorce, unemployment, relationship issues
  • Bereavement
  • Depression
  • Relapse prevention programme.

The majority of therapeutic work will take place in phase 2

Complementary Therapy

Access to the complementary therapist is offered for treatments such as Aromatherapy, massage, REKI and crystal healing. This aids relaxation in a tranquil environment.

Follow Up Care

On completion of the 10 day or 30 day programme the individual has the option to extend treatment in agreement with the Consultant Psychiatrist and the team.

Prior to discharge the specialist nurse will spend time addressing social issues such as housing, benefits, education and employment - if required.

We are aware that alcohol may have been a major feature in everyday life, so we aim to replace this with inclusion in education, employment, voluntary work or hobbies.

Your team will make necessary referrals to alcohol services, AA or other support groups. Options are available to receive follow up from Riverdale but owing to distances involved this may not be practical.
